Each year, LifeQuest holds campaigns and hosts events for donors, recipients and their families as well as providing valuable resources for hospital staff and others connected to the donation community.
National Donate Life Month
April is National Donate Life Month (NDLM), a time when the nation’s organ and tissue donation and transplant community heightens its promotion of the need for life-saving donors. NDLM was first designated in 2003 with the support of Tommy Thompson, then-secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Each year since, the number of events, activities and campaigns held to promote donation grows.
Many campaigns promoted during NDLM are supported by Donate Life America, a national advocacy group dedicated to increasing the number of lives saved through donation and transplantation.
Strom Bryson Memorial Donor Quilt
Our donor family quilt is one of our most treasured projects. Named for a young donor from Tallahassee, this quilt project contains a collection of memories from donor families throughout our service area. We have 10 panels of the quilt, with each square lovingly crafted by the family of a donor. We display the quilt panels at special events throughout the community, and when not in use, the panels are on display in our offices throughout northern Florida. Participation in the quilt project is available to all LifeQuest donor families.
Tribute to Life
Tribute to Life is a reverent ceremony we hold each fall in Jacksonville that unites donor families, transplant recipients, caregivers and healthcare professionals. It is a time to celebrate the wonderful gifts of life given by LifeQuest donors and to recognize those heroes with a candle-lighting ceremony, testimonials and our award-winning video production, Faces of Life.
LifeQuest also partners with local tissue banks in their celebration events held throughout our service area.
For more information these or the other events, please view our Calendar of Events or send us a message through our Contact page.
Our volunteers provide a tremendous service to the community by taking our message and mission to many more audiences than we could reach on our own.
Many of our volunteers are donor family members or recipients who speak from the heart about the importance of donation. Whether sharing their testimonials in the schools, creating a presence at community health fairs or helping us put on special events for National Donate Life Month, our volunteers are a critical part of our community operations.
We welcome the opportunity for recipients, donor families and other individuals to help us with our mission. If you would like to become a LifeQuest volunteer and help us increase donation, please send us a message through our Contact page.
Charitable Giving
LifeQuest’s mission to save lives relies on the support and commitment of individuals who believe in organ and tissue donation. Their gifts are recognized immediately by the patients on the waiting list.
Our foundation relies on another kind of generosity – the willingness of individuals to contribute financially to our efforts. Contributions made to our foundation support our family services programs and events, as well as our outreach into the community. As we increase the number of Floridians who enroll on our registry, we increase the opportunity for those patients in need of life-saving transplants to receive their Gifts of Life.
Monetary donations are tax-deductible and can be made directly to LifeQuest. They also can be made in memory of a loved one who was an organ donor, transplant recipient or patient awaiting a transplant. Checks can be made payable to LifeQuest and sent to us at 8491 NW 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32606. We also can accept credit card donations through our parent organization, UF Health Shands Hospital.
